THE SHOW: Deluxx Fluxx Arcade

Brooklyn-based artist Faile and Bast are taking over an LES storefront to create this psychedelic, black-lit fully functional arcade.  All the games have been repurposed with Faile and Bast graphics along with music by Les Savvy Fav's Seth Jabour.
(via Gothamist. Check the site to read an interview with artists.)

The arcade will be open Tuesday through Sunday from 3-11pm until May 27th at 158 Allen Street

THE T-SHIRT: Homage Clothing

These are for my Cleveland/Columbus folks.  Homage Clothing, based out of Columbus, OH, make t-shirts based on old sports and collegiate references. Similar to No Mas, Homage's shirts reference classic moments in sports history. Plus, Homage also has a lot of shirts for fellow Ohioans to choose from. Finally, we're getting some love. THE SHOP: Stepping Razor Barber Shop

My friend Danny, from The Cool & Deadly,  opened up an old-school barber shop to serve the good people of Bushwick/East Williamsburg called The Stepping Razor Barber Shop.  It is located inside POST BMX Bike Shop on an up and coming industrial block in Bushwick. He specializes in traditional barbering services and hot towel shaves for the gentleman and the Outlaw..  The shop's got an old-time barber shop feel mixed with 80's skateboards, reggae lps, and hot rods.  After you get a cut, check out the bikes at POST.

THE COLLAB: Duane Peters x Dickies

Check this sick video with old school punk rocker and skateboard legend Duane Peters. Here he shows how you how to taper your Dickies "cigarette style" while in jail aka The Jailhouse Weld! All you need is a toothbrush and a lighter!
Also, in other Dickies news: Somewhere amongst the workwear revival, the Dickies heritage got left out. All that's about to change with Dickies 1922 collection. The collection creates replicas “manufactured exactly as they were” and made in the same Uvalde, TX factory that made the originals. (via Selectism)

THE OPENING: Gant Rugger shop

Some of you may remember seeing the Gant label when you stole a polo or button down shirt from your Dad's closet. Gant Rugger is their hipper, younger line which reproduces looks from their archives but with a more modern, slimmer fit.  The brand is opening their first Gant Rugger store in New York's West Village tomorrow.
I've picked up a couple button downs in the past, and can co-sign on the softness and comfort of their shirts.  More pics of the shop's interiors after the jump. (via

Started in Cleveland, Food Party by Thu Tran is one of the best things on television right now.  It's Pee Wee's Playhouse meets Rachel Ray on crack.  Here's a video (from Food Thyme w/ Rosemary on which talks to Thu about hot guys, babes, samurais, and eating with mirrors. Watch Food Party on IFC on Tuesdays at 10pm.

THE ICON: Jean-Michel Basquiat

Style Guy, Glenn O'Brien waxes poetic about his most stylish friend,  Jean-Michel Basquiat. He speaks about how Jean-Michel "without a dime he projected nobility." You can read it here on the Nowness. More pics of SAMO in action after the jump.

Sail Away Sail Away Sail Away

East beats West. Here is another example of the Japanese doing it better than us Westerners.  Two outdoor clothing companies, nanamica (Japan) and  Helly Hansen (US) collaborate on a spring/summer line inspired by sailing flags.  Any piece from this collection would look amazing on your summer trip to the Cape, especially that jacket. No Ice Cream Style For MIA

M.I.A, Born Free from ROMAIN-GAVRAS on Vimeo.

Wow, MIA is definitely not getting soft on her new album.  This video from her Suicide sampling song, Born Free, is not for the faint of heart (or those who know her as that pregnant girl on the Grammy's). It was directed by Romain Gavras and is probably NSFW!

Budweiser, Sprite, Do You Feel Alright?

Real Estate will be the soundtrack to OUR summer. They are one of the few bands that actually sound rad outdoors. They played outside on the steps of PS1 on Saturday and provided the perfect soundtrack to a nice spring day, perfect enough to ride your bike and sport your favorite plaid button down.
Also, on hand was Forth Estate doing live silkscreening (Shout out to my OG silkscreen teacher, Luther Davis! It was rad seeing you on Sat.)

A Good Letterman Is Hard To Find

A lot of times the Letterman jackets you find in thrift stores are oddly shaped with large armholes and baggy sleeves. Gant comes through with a great fitting Letterman coat (available at Seattle's best, Blackbird). The price point is a bit high, but hopefully we'll see the jacket on Gilt!

Imitation Is The Sincerest Form Of Flattery

Grace Jones is a true original. No one has come close to topping her style...until now. I have no idea where this photo of Pink Eyes came from, but it's genius and mildy racist, depending who you talk to. Also, here's a pretty rad DIY version of Grace! via (
